book club
May 15 & 16
Last November, the Book Club selected the next five books for discussion. The last of the books selected was Eleni by Nicholas Gage. The story is of Gage’s mother, Eleni Gatzoiannis. After WWII Greece was inflamed in civil war. The rebels frequently tried to kidnap children from villages and send them to camps behind the iron curtain. Gage’s mother resisted the rebels and arranged the escape of her three daughters and one son, Nicola. For this she was tortured and executed. Nicola, raised by his father, became Nicholas and ultimately returned to Greece to uncover and then tell his mother’s story.
Book Club will meet on Wednesday and Thursday, May 15th and May 16th at the Coopers’ home. Please let John or Susan know what night you plan to attend so they can make the arrangements. Read the book and come and enjoy good food, good company and conversation about good books.
