Stop the Stigma event on May 18

Stop the Stigma was held on May 18th at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. This event was organized by our member Barbara Wilson, and it educates on a variety of mental health issues.

The objective is to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness and make people aware of the resources available to people who are struggling with mental illness and their loved ones.
A number of organizations had tables, including PFLAG, NAMI, the Sheriff Department’s Mental Health team, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Los Angeles County Mental Health Dept., Mental Health Hookup, Hart District’s One Hart, Women for Sobriety, and others.
Speakers included Senator Alex Padilla and his wife Angela, State Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo, and Barbara Wilson. Charmaine Navarro of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Education Department gave the keynote presentation, which was prepared by Lauren Rettagliata, a mother in Northern California. Larry Schallert received a number of awards for his service.
