“Open Circle: Beloved Community”

The central task of the religious community is to unveil the bonds that bind each to all…for alone our vision is too narrow to see all that must be seen, and our strength too limited to do all that must be done. Together, our vision widens and our strength is renewed” (Rev. Dr. Mark Morrison-Reed). Join us in an open circle service, an interactive hour of music, readings and dialogue. A congregation is not simply a community within a community; it dares to be bolder. What does it mean to become beloved? How do we practice it here at UU of SCV? What will hinder or nurture it?

To go deep in this open circle service, you are especially invited to read the 2012 UU World essay, “The End of iChurch” by Rev. Fredric Muir linked here: https://www.uuworld.org/articles/end-ichurch

Following the service, there will be a special break-out room dedicated to a discussion of the article’s major points about the “vision of a deep covenantal community life” and the “challenges of individualism, exceptionalism and authority.” Facilitated by Rev. Megan and Board VP Bob Maitino.
