“Spirit helpers, guides or angels” is an idea deeply embedded in human consciousness. Such spirit helpers are found in pagan, shamanistic and native American cultures and in all faith religions. They come in many shapes and forms from tree nymphs to fairies and devas, to the beautiful winged creatures found in religious art.

Though they may not all have wings as the Abrahamic faiths tend to visualize them in modern history, the concept of a disembodied spirit helper is ubiquitous. Why was this concept helpful to us? Is it still helpful today?
