This Marvelous Rejoining: Flower Ceremony

“This is what community looks like—
this vibrant jostle, stem by stem
declaring the marvelous joining.
This is the face of communion,
the incarnation once more
gracefully resurrected from winter.” Lynn Ungar

Originally created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Norbert Capek of Prague, Czechoslovakia, the Flower Ceremony was introduced to the United States by Rev. Maya Capek, Norbert’s widow. In this ceremony, everyone in the congregation brings a flower. Each person places a flower on the altar or in a shared vase. The congregation and minister bless the flowers, and they’re redistributed. Each person brings home a different flower than the one they brought. This is our first Sunday, leading worship from our in-person home of Vibe Performing Arts.

Bring with you a few flowers to join in our flower ceremony ritual and to bless our in-person space.

Livestreaming from home? Bring flowers into your home to share with each family member. Send the image of your favorite flower with a kind message to someone in our community by email.
