Religious forces are behind many of the most serious conflicts and debates of our time. What is it about religion that inspires people to such extremes? Would we be better off without it entirely? And what does that say about our own religion, Unitarian Universalism?

Since his ordination in 1998, Rev. Rick Hoyt-McDaniels has served congregations in the Los Angeles area, including our own congregation from 2001 to 2010. Currently he is the Interim Minister for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Long Beach. He lives in downtown Los Angeles.
